What Do You Love More?
What Do You Love More?
Do you hear them calling your name? No, not the coaches yelling at you to keep moving. I’m talking about the whole cake at the birthday party you’re attending…the pizza on the tv commercial…the soda at the gas station you ran into to pay the attendant. I’m just as guilty as the next person. We all have certain foods and drinks that are our own personal weakness. We’ve all fell victim to the craving on a non-cheat day.
Kicking the addiction to sugary foods is difficult. Some of us have had to do it multiple times. I’m going to steal a line from another great coach I met when I first started training. What do you love more…pizza, soda, and ice cream…or yourself? This isn’t a blog about what foods to eat and what not to eat. It’s just about trying to fight that urge that comes over us every now and then…or more often for a few others. Do you love yourself enough to keep yourself in peak condition, to live life the way it was meant to be lived? This is the kind of question you should ask yourself…not if you have enough self-discipline.
I know this may sound kind of cheesy but if you have more urges than you can control, try to form a support system, the same way addicts do. Call your Coach or fellow athlete up and say you’re having trouble. The best way to ensure success is to surround yourself with like-minded people who can hold you accountable. Get with your significant other, a couple good friends, or you can always be “that guy” or “that girl” and just tell everyone around you, all the time, that you’re choosing to eat clean and have a healthier lifestyle.
The bottom line is that we all have these moments and there are many ways to fight the urge to eat a whole pizza and chase it with a half gallon of ice cream and a liter of soda. It’s how you deal with it and how much you care about yourself that matters. Now get back to your support group/person and keep being awesome inside the gym, but more importantly outside of it as well.
